Call:

Each resident takes call once per month, for a week at a time. All of the call is home call. During the call weekend the resident is expected to round on the patients at the hospital for which they are covering. There is always a staff physician back-up on call with the resident.  If you are not scheduled to be on call, you are not required to work the weekend.

Education Time:

Each resident is allowed 5 education days each year of their residency. These may be split up into one or two days in order to attend a local conference, or taken all at once to attend a National conference.

Benefits:

In addition to the resident salary, there are benefits offered through the University of Minnesota.

  • Health insurance plans are available as individual or family plans.
  • Optional dental insurance is available - not available for dependents.
  • Life insurance, long-term and short-term disability plans are standard for all residents and fellows.
  • An optional retirement plan is available.
  • Parking is provided at all affiliate rotation sites.
  • The U of M athletic facility is available for resident use for a fee, and offers full work-out facilities.

Vacation:

  • PGY 2 residents receive two weeks paid leave
  • PGY 3 residents receive three weeks paid leave
